Shower Time Favourites!

Anyone who visits my bathroom would think I’m trying to subliminally brainwash them into buying Soap and Glory products. It would be a problem if I didn’t love them so damn much. And with that said, I have only yet found one product I don’t like which when you consider how hit and miss some brands can be, is pretty impressive!

So without further a-do here are my Soap and Glory shower time favourites!

Sugar Crush Body wash 500ml - £6.50, Sugar Crush Body Buttercream 300ml - £10.50, Clean On Me 500ml - £6.00, The Righteous Butter 300ml - £10.50
 Sugar Crush Body Wash

This is the brightest of all the Soap and Glory bottles and one of my all-time favourite things to use in the shower! It smells completely incredible and it is so different to anything else they make. The sweet, sugary lime fragrance is so refreshing and such a joy to use in the morning when I need a pick me up. The consistency is pretty typical of S&G, not too thick so it is easy to pump out and lather, but really moisturising so your skin is left soft and conditioned.

Sugar Crush Body Buttercream

This Buttercream is unsurprisingly my favourite thing to use after my shower! It smells even more indulgent than the Sugar Crush Body Wash, with a creamy, buttery, sweetness that makes it quite difficult to put down and spot using. I really do have to restrain myself. It is slightly thicker than any of the other S&G moisturisers or body butters which is why I don’t tend to use it all that much. It makes getting dressed a nightmare and can take hours to absorb into the skin, but by God… it’s worth it.

Clean On Me Creamy Clarifying Shower Gel

I have used this shower gel for years and think I will continue to do so for years to come! It is a bit of a super hero in the shower because it contains a built in body lotion which makes me feel a little less guilty about skipping the moisturising 'process'! There is only one word that will describe the scent of Clean On Me, and that is iconic. It is Soap and Glory’s signature scent… that scent you smell and instantly go “someone’s used Soap and Glory”. Just beautiful.

The Righteous Butter Body Butter

This lovely body butter is also a bit of an icon and a lovely accompaniment to Clean On Me! It has a smooth and creamy texture with shea butter and aloe vera which makes it so soothing and moisturising for your skin. The smell, again, is just lovely. There is no sharpness to it but it is so distinctive and indulgent that it is perfect for use in the morning and in the evening. It absorbs into skin a little easier than the Sugar Crush Buttercream so it is maybe a better option for daily and convenient use.

What are your shower time favourites?!

Summer Vegetable Curry!

It's recipe time again !

I've been itching to write about this amazing summer vegetable curry since making it on Saturday! It's really one for everyone. I'm not a curry fan, in fact, I'd go as far as to say, I hate the stuff! But this is so inoffensive to the senses and has so much flavour!

You will need:

2 Tablespoons of Red Thai Curry Paste
500ml of Vegetable Stock
2 Onions, Chopped
2 Chicken Breasts or 1 Aubergine (for a veggie option) Chopped
75g Red Lentils
200ml Low Fat Coconut Milk
2 Red Pepper, De-seeded and Chopped into Chunks
140g of Frozen Peas
100g of Baby Spinach, Roughly Chopped
Rice and Chutney to Serve!

 What do I do now?!

1> To start with, heat the red thai curry paste in a large pan with a small splash of the vegetable stock. After about a minute add the onion and fry for 5 minutes until they are starting to soften.

2> If you are making a veggie option, stir in the aubergine and cook for another 5 minutes adding a little more stock if it starts to stick.

3> Add the lentils, coconut milk and the rest of the stock and simmer for 15 minutes until the lentils are tender and have swollen slightly.

4> Add the peppers and cook for another 5-10 minutes.

5> If you are using chicken, begin to dry fry your chicken now until cooked through.

6> Stir through the peas, spinach and chicken and cook until the spinach has wilted!

Serve with rice and chutney!

Enjoy!

The Food Doctor Review

I used to have such a good relationship with breakfast. We were buddies. The best of friends. But since moving to Bristol a year ago, the whole thing has fallen away from me and I have found it really difficult to motivate myself in the morning. And I have also found that my body likes to wait until the most inconvenient time to let me know I’m actually, really, very hungry. This will often be right before I start work where I’m forced to grab whatever cereal bar claims to be the ‘healthiest’ and write off the morning.

There is really no excuse for this. With shops like Boots and Mark and Spencer stocking cereal and muesli the option IS there… I guess it’s all about convenience. I know a lot of the so called ‘healthy’ cereal bars are actually doing nothing for me, if you look past the low calorie content there’s not much left other than, well, empty calories and a lot of sugar.

£0.95 Holland and Barratt

So I was on my way to work doing my usual routine and I walked past a Holland and Barratt and found myself drifting through the doors. I’ve always been into health food’s but I had never thought that Holland and Barratt might stock something that is a little bit better for me. The selection of genuinely good for you snack bars is incredible but I was drawn to one in particular called The Food Doctor.  The packaging is so simple but with some really good, natural claims. I picked up the Apple & Walnut and Fig & Mango bar’s and I was really surprised.

Scanning the ingredients on the back it is easy to see that pretty much everything they pack into them is natural using real fruits, seeds and cereals. With only 109 and 103 calories a bar I was really interested to see what they would taste like.

Ok, so the bar itself didn’t look like the most appetising thing I’ve eaten. In fact it was quite hard to get a flattering picture of it. But (and I’ll let you decide if this is good or bad) the bars look quite moist and compared to a lot of cereal bars they are very dense and compact. When you bite into them they don’t crumble and are very soft and chewy which adds a really lovely dimension to them. You can easily see all the different layers and goodness that is in them.

Onto the most important bit… the taste! I won’t lie to you. They don’t taste fantastic. They are not bad by any means! They just lack something artificial sweetener. I guess they are a little bland. But I would argue that they taste how they are meant to taste and it probably is because they are completely natural with only naturally occurring sugars that they taste a bit flat.

The thing I found most surprising about The Food Doctor bars was how they where able to sustain my hunger and keep me satisfied throughout the morning! With any other cereal bar I have found myself hungry within an hour or two at the most, but this was completely different.

I would seriously consider buying these in bulk if only they tasted a little better but I would defiantly pick one up if I was super hungry knowing that its going to do me good as well as satisfying my stomach!

Has anyone else tried The Food Doctor products?
